So there is no problem in porting GPL applications to non-linux systems and to link against proprietary drivers or other libraries that are a core part of that system.
If I understand it correctly it is not much an issue for the application but it might become an issue when a GPL library is linked to the application which itself is linked to a closed source library.
However I do not think that licensing is really a problem here since all partys would accept the terms of the GPL even if linking to a closed source component is neccessary here.
Also I think I will provide a rudimentary DirectShow plugin - hopefully in the near future.
I tried to test openwengo, especially the video part, but without much success. I could not get it to build on my Ubuntu-PPC Linux system ( have not tried it much though ) so I installed the Windows version but I could not get the video part running since there seems to be no way to set the properties of the video camera. ( Unfortunately this prevented me to open the iris ;-) ).
