Details:

Basically, whenever it is the AI's turn, it evaluates every single unit in
the game - by which I mean every single unit whose WML was evaluated, not
just the ones that it has available to recruit - and  if any of them have
advanceto=s to nonexistent units, Wesnoth will segfault.

Now, it's nice that Wesnoth complains about wrong advanceto=s all the time
(as opposed to only when a unit actually tries to advance and realizes it has
nothing to go to), but having it segfault on the AI's turn is not ideal...
