Follow-up Comment #4:
Normally, when a unit appears as an option in an advancement dialog, it's
immediately added to the list of known units so its abilities become visible.
Works, except for units like Kaleh that have special advancements coded in
WML.
I doubt we can fix this in any way less messy than adding a new WML
primitive, callable by the advancement macros, that adds abilities to an
explicit visibility list.
