Follow-up Comment #5, bug #11294 (project wesnoth):
wmlxgettext doesn't include in the .po files comments the name of the macro
that has a particular translatable string in its arguments list.
++
#define MACRO T_STRING1 NOT_T_STRING
[message]
speaker=narrator
message={T_STRING1}
image={NOT_T_STRING}
[/message]
#enddef
{MACRO (_"You have selected a Yeti.") units/monsters/yeti.png}
--
This is a semi-realistic example of using translatable strings in macros. For
a more realistic one:
++
#define MSG_NARRATOR MESSAGE
[message]
speaker=narrator
message={MESSAGE}
[/message]
#enddef
{MSG_NARRATOR ( _ "And there was light.")}
--
This is a realistic example of this technique, which I use a lot in my add-on
campaign. Unfortunately, the message entry(ies) in the gettext catalogue don't
have any information attached about the macro which is using them.
Something like what is currently being done for non-macro code, would be
good. Not all translators are willing to go to check the WML for every single
string's underlying code.
