Follow-up Comment #7, bug #15459 (project wesnoth): Hmmm, I still can't get that far with stack protection on, failing on the second item it tries to compile (src/tests/test_lexical_cast.cpp). That's even on stock 1.7.13, for which I attached a compile log. Maybe one of your other flags that I'm not using is loosening up the protection.
For reference, Wikipedia claims that it's default on Ubuntu (though obviously not in my experience), some security-conscious distros and the BSDs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffer_overflow_protection#GCC_Stack-Smashing_Protector_.28ProPolice.29 In any case, I won't be offended if the best solution in your view is to revert the change. I understand that Boost is written to be largely monolithic at this point, and mine is a fringe case with very simple workarounds.
