Follow-up Comment #5, bug #15349 (project wesnoth):

BTW, let me know if I need to file a separate bug report.

"outside the playing field": I mean border hexes. Tiles on the edge that the
units can't reach.

If you tested the TCG Era, I have to point out that a keep tile has to be on
the border for it to break. Regular castle tiles on the border don't seem to
cause a problem. I use a [filter_radius] subtag to detect castle tiles,
though I don't know why that would make a difference. If the current Wesnoth
behavior stands, I would have to slightly change the way I get the array of
keeps.

The attached map, with TCG Castle, works fine in 1.7.13. In 1.7.14+svn
(41539M), Lua gives an error message because the keep at 0,3 is out of range.
You may want to edit the map for different test cases.

test.tar.bz2 is an era that uses store_locations to show the coordinates of
all keeps.

My main concern at this point is whether or not the location filter and/or
the [store_locations] tag may be changed again to match the previous
feature-frozen behavior. Until I know that, I can't update my add-on.
