I'd usually complain about the lack of changelog, but with the 1.8->1.9
transition, it's fine...
i'll mark this patch as postponed and will continue testing/commit once 1.9
is branched out
fyi, there is no way it can go in 1.8, not only because of feature freeze,
but also because it adds a couple of strings
