Testing shows that the crash is fixed. The removed

turn_at = utils::interpolate_variables_into_string(turn_at, *state);

was clearly the one where it did crash.
Since I'd still like to understand what's up here assigning to me and marking
in progress.
(If we'd want to support variables at that place we'd also need to pass a
vconfig to that constructor.)
