Follow-up Comment #2, bug #18522 (project wesnoth):

ummm...

1. The behavior to use $x1 $y1 as default wasn't event documented in the
wiki, why is wml using it ?
2. Changing/reverting remove_item behavior would break a powerful feature
(removing all items this way is useful isn't it). Also, it's in line with
behavior of other tags.
3. [item] did not have default $x1 $y1 (but did require explicit
coordinates).
4. A wmllint rule to insert $x1 $y1 would be nice but how would wmllint know
whether it is intended/not intended to remove all items ? Maybe a directive
telling explicitely to not complain, otherwise insert x,y=$x1,$y1 ?

(Just did a search in my campaign - I'm not ever using it without
coordinates.)
