I think what you're asking CABD in a way,
by placing a "*" in front of the option to be default
The following is from lines 24-49 in the add-on Random Campaign v0.9.0
message={MENU_IMG_TXT "terrain/flat/road.png" _"Clear"}
message={MENU_IMG_TXT "terrain/fog/fog1.png" _"Fog"}
message="*"+{MENU_IMG_TXT "terrain/void/void.png" _"Shroud"}
when the choice is presented, the 3rd option is highlighted.
