Reproduce:
In the "save game" dialog(both SP & MP), hit 'shift', it seems that the text
field of this dialog has lost focus, click the text field, input save's name
and save, it become a 'invalid' save.
Note from shadowm on IRC:
20140602 20:27:21< shadowm> Kevin_Xi, iceiceice: The saves generated with
names entered by pressing shift/using caps lock in the save dialog are
actually valid. It's just that if you have a compression format selected in
Advanced Preferences, the save is compressed but doesn't get the correct
extension (.gz or .bz2) in the filename, thus the game tries to read it as
plain text and fails. Also note that this only affects master, not 1.11.15 or
the 1.12 ...
20140602 20:27:27< shadowm> ... branch. I advise you file a bug report and get
mordante to look at it (if you can bisect it that'd probably be even better,
but I have no idea what a suitable 'good' starting commit would be other than
the branching point).
20140602 20:27:58< shadowm> I wonder if it's inputting \0s into the save
dialog's text field somehow.
