Follow-up Comment #1, bug #21812 (project wesnoth):
I can confirm that this bug is still present in the 1.12.0 release (at least
when installing on Linux).
I guess some CMake magic has to be performed to filter out those .gitignore
files when installing the game data.
See the updated list of installed .gitignore files for 1.12.0 in attachment.
