Since PR #367 <https://github.com/wesnoth/wesnoth/pull/367> was merged into
the 1.12 branch, 1.12.1 will only include four .gitignore files, none of which
are part of the resource dir, thus they won't be copied to the install
prefix:
.gitignore
./projectfiles/Dev-C++/.gitignore
./projectfiles/CodeBlocks/.gitignore
./src/.gitignore
./.gitignore
So I'd consider this issue fixed.
