Details:
This may be a fault that lies with SDL2 or the display drivers, as there seems
to be other mentions of this problem on the general Internet.
I encounter this issue on both the radeon open-source driver and the fglrx
proprietary driver. Interesting to note that on fglrx, the white-box is
semi-transparent, such that the border of the shield in the Wesnoth logo is
clearly visible through it. This isn't picked up at the image capture level,
so the transparency must be hardware-related.
I don't know of any work-arounds at this point, other than to perhaps provide
the SDL 1.2 colour cursor surfaces as a fall-back option instead of only
having black-and-white or SDL 2.0 colour cursors as the available options. I
rather like the colour cursors so to be forced to use black-and-white cursors
with the SDL 2.0 build (even if it improves the experience for OS X users)
would be unfortunate.
This doesn't appear to be an issue on Windows (of course, display drivers on
Windows tend to have better support).
