I think that
https://github.com/wesnoth/wesnoth/commit/3b3320b5b6d3e9715c86792f3e09fd5dc9e639ff
made it worse becasue it now doesn't work in the case that no resize is
involved (which is the more likeley case). If we cannot fix this before the
next release we should revert that commit
