Betreff: AW: [Wesnoth-dev] Where do we head from here, part 2

So, I would like to gauge where the devs stand on some issues:
- Do we want to add several new factions to mainline?

In principal yes, but not in the default era. Otherwise this is going to
become an enormous, maybe impossible thing to balance. The factions should
be "complete" somehow, that is having a story, art etc. This maybe has to be
defined but i recall having read some useful definitions already somewhere
in the forums.

- Do we allow for temporary (large) regressions in unit balance in devel?

Again, in principal yes. The way to go in developing a new release should be
to throw balance away, then add/change anything you want and in the end
balance everything again. On the other hand we sort of missed the right time
to do that. Therefore we now have a very good balanced default era. Much
work have been put in this already and certain "external constructions" (the
ladder and certain campaigns for example) are relying at this point of
development on it. It would be somewhat rude to throw that completely away
now. So i vote for keeping it and avoid any severe changes. Other eras are
not balanced (enough) and we might use them to take advantage of new
abilities, features, whatever.

- Do we want major restructuring of the damage types, abilities, etc?

I would want to leave this decision to the mp devs. I consider myself being
quite a decent player but i have a lot difficulties to judge the
implications of such changes. Soliton, Dragonking, Noy and Paterson (and any
others if i forgot them here) should be best suited to decide this.

About the "Fantasy world": I really don't know. Haven't thought about this
enough. One of the first thoughts that comes to my mind: If we have
different eras, they should all be consistent in themselves but can have
their own "world". But really, i don't have a strong opinion on this.

Hope you can use these ideas.

Greetings

Jörg Hinrichs
