I STRONGLY endorse the removal of:
wesnoth-3 (the undead theme with that awful, awful slide in it)
wesnoth-4 (I'm not a melody, I'm just a scale. Repeated. over and over again.)
wesnoth-6 (techno? Techno?!?! )
wesnoth-7 (not such a bad song, though the instrumentation is rather thin. The signal clipping kills it, though)
wesnoth-8 (see wesnoth-7)

And as for wesnoth-5, I wouldn't mind seeing it go; it's nothing special - a very, very short looping track.

I agree that the new music is better, but immediately dropping 5 pieces cuts off 1/3rd of our music options. IMHO we don't have new music pieces that represent all the same moods as those indended for removal.

That's the point.
The point is to completely redefine the way we think about and use music in the game. I support Aleksi and TimP completely, because I've never been fond of this "tie one theme to each race" business - it feels artificial, and causes the music to loop too much. I'd much rather have the music as a function of the map, and more aptly, the situation.

I haven't heard anyone claiming that the music is a detraction to the game.

Hi. Haven't muttered much about it for a long time, but I'll happily lay that claim now.
I find wesnoth-3 and wesnoth-6 to really mar the quality of this game.

Really, they are so bad that it would be better to have silence in their place, which is what I've forcibly elected to have whenever my gameplay runs into them. Even if we were not getting new music, I'd support having those two songs removed.

P.S. i would like to hear the old "main_menu" theme used again for save/load dialog boxes. The new theme is great for the main page, but i find it too exciting/energetic for the mundane task of saving/ loading, since it's usually much more bombastiic than that levels music.

I agree.
