Hiho everyone!
In the last days/weeks there have been some "problems" with the
development of wesnoth (at least I do think so). I do remember the
times when there were quite many discussions about stuff and when we
"collected" ideas and simply talked about the things that have to be
changed and how they should be changed. But at the moment there is
almost nothing like this. Some balancing changes are being discussed
in the irc channel but that's basically it. I think it would be good
if we would go back to talk about this stuff more often. With "this
stuff" i mean things like theme- and engine-changes.
I don't mind if there was some more traffic on this ml ;). In my
opinion the best place to discuss changes and problems is not the
forum, but the irc-channel. We have this channel, so why not use it? I
think Wesnoth really has one or two serious problems at the moment:
1) The lack of time of it's devs. This is a problem that is really
hard to solve and I know no way around this.
2) The lack of "lead". At the moment there is noone clearly giving the
game a direction. Dave somehow retired and is seldomly saying a word
in the irc-channel. For me it looks like noone really took the
position Dave had. Yes, I know that this is really hard to do since he
did a great job with this. To me it somehow looks like some people are
doing their very own without listening for the opinion of the other
devs. The forum is a nice place to gather some thoughts but it should
NOT be where all things are made up. I think we do really need someone
whos word simply "counts". And this one should be around so that other
devs can talk to him when needed.
I am really looking forward to your opinions about this.
Greets,
Nils Kneuper aka Ivanovic
