Although I don't think I represent the majority of players I consider the
clock a useful thing; regardless how high your resolution is, it can't be
high enough for wesnoth, so I always use fullscreen. Besides that the
scrolling doesn't work as smooth in windowed mode. I don't know about your
setup, but I can't see my system clock when playing fullscreen, therefore
I am quite happy about the clock in the dfool theme. So happy indeed that
I didn't even notice that a clock was introduced in the default theme. ;-)

At the moment, only a minority of wesnoth users is able to switch themes
anyway, and those who are able can live with playing english. It doesn't
make much sense to argue about a theme which only few people use. I would
also leave the default theme as it was; I think it has been a good
compromise for a long time.

The point of all this is that it might be better to
a) create more themes, or make themes user-editable and
b) make theme switching easier to access (probably by putting this into
the preferences, having a preview, ...)

IMO this would be a solution in the spirit of wesnoth: if you think you
have a good layout idea, contribute. If you think a clock is a good
idea, include it; otherwise just leave it out. At some point in the
future we might have 2-5 themes which are shipped with mainline wesnoth,
and dozens of other themes striving to be added.

For the developers this would mean to rather put more work into extending
the theme framework than add more themes only a minority can use, or
argue about changing an already proven theme.

Let's hear some opinions on this :-)
Cheers,
  majestyk
