| Hi,
|
| this is Patrick Maier from GameStar magazine, Germany's leading PC
| gaming magazine with a sold circulation of 250.000 copies a month.
| On our cover-mounted DVDs we offer a large variety of demos, mods and
| levels.
| For the DVD of the coming or of a subsequent edition we ask you to give
| us your approval to use your game Battle for Wesnoth.

This is really good news. In general you do not have to ask our explicit
permission since the License Terms (GPLv2+) already allows you to freely
distribute the game. Never the less we of course do give you the approval. If
you do not put the sourcecode package on the DVD you will have to at least
mention where to get the sources, that is the website http://www.wesnoth.org.
Either distributing the sources or providing a way where to get them is required
by the GPLv2+.

| Please sign the following declaration and fax it back to the faxnumber:
| ++49-(0)89-36086-652.
|
| Alternatively a permission by e-mail would be fine, too.

Since we don't really have fax, I do send this confirmation via mail.

| I hope this is the correct address for this request. If not, please
| forward this to the right one or email me.
|
| A final question: did you use any material protected by copyright for
| your game (e.g. graphics or music from other games or films)?

All material that was used within 'Battle for Wesnoth' was either specifically
designed for the game and is as such GPLv2+ (that covers 99.9% of all content)
or comes from other GPL projects that allowed using it or was public domain
which means "you are free to use it and do whatever you want with it". So there
are no restrictions for you to distribute the game on your cover disk(s).

There are some favors I would ask from you:
1) It would be really great if you could wait for the final version Wesnoth 1.4
before putting it on the DVD. Current plans are to have this version tagged on
March 2nd, which means that the Windows binary should be available on March,
5th. I will send you a link to the download once it is out. If you can't wait
this long, please do ship the latest available 1.4-rc version (currently this is
1.3.18, on sunday evening it will be 1.3.19) since with the release of 1.4 the
old version 1.2 is obsolete and will eventually die regarding our support. It
would be good if you could wait for 1.4 since I am sure that your readers will
have the best possible game experience with this version. Over 1.2 it does
features about twice the amount of campaigns, better balancing, better graphics
and music. The filesize for the Windows binary will probably about 110MB, which
should be bearable for the cover DVD.
2) If you mention Wesnoth in an article it would be great if we could get a copy
of the article for our website so that we can directly link it. This is not
mandatory or anything, it would just be really nice to have. If you tell us the
issue Wesnoth is in, we will most likely even put it into our news section of
the frontpage.
3) We would be really happy about a real test in your magazine, though this is
very unlikely. We are open for every kind of comments and critics especially
from professional game testers.

None of the three points above are mandatory for putting Wesnoth on the cover
DVD. But waiting for 1.4 final would be really nice and I think in the best
interest of your readers, too.
