Ehm, this currently does rather look like a mess to me. Regarding their packages
site for hardy
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=hardy&searchon=names&keywords=wesnoth),
it does look like only the binaries wesnoth, wesnoth_editor and wesnothd are
1.3.19 and this only for powerpc and amd64. All the rest seems to be 1.2.8,
especially the campaigns, which will not work. The campaigns listed there are
only the ones included in 1.2.8, too.

|
| They can't propably ship 1.2, because they already contain 1.3.19:
|
| #v+
| $> rmadison -u ubuntu -s hardy wesnoth
| wesnoth | 1:1.2.8-1 | hardy/universe | i386
| wesnoth | 1:1.3.19-1 | hardy/universe | source, amd64, powerpc
| #v-

That is a problem since the binary itself is okay, but what about the extra
content? cf above.

| I have contact to some ubuntu people too, will query them with respect
| to this, but as 1.3.19 is said to be compatible with 1.4 (and I
| expect/hope that the version check code for the server does know about
| that?) there shouldn't be too much problems even if they won't follow
| the 1.4 upload? Besides, I know nothing about how their freeze actually
| works.

In general it should. But currently the shipped mp server does only support its
very own version unless you specify a configuration file that allows other
versions to be used. I asked Soliton to hardcode allowing other versions by
default, too, unless an explicit list of versions is specified. So with the real
release of 1.4 (planned for sunday), this will not be a problem anymore since
the server shipped with it will support all other versions. This is a rather
critical problem, since for game in a local network, wesnothd is now required.
Still joining the official server and playing on that one will work with 1.3.19,
too.

Cheers,
