If we intended to use Google Groups to mitigate the 'barrier to entry'
with the forums, it's ... kind of a red herring. Any communications
medium like IRC, usenet, or even blog comments, twitter, or anything,
really, has its own barrier to entry - until you sit down and use the
thing, for a sizeable number of people, it's this black box. And a
lot of people procrastinate on getting into using it, because they've
mentally budgeted too much time for "figuring it out", and don't want
to spend that time. They just vaguely figure that it would be a
challenge, and don't bother. The red herring is that - for those who
would actually be affected by this barrier to entry; I suspect they'd
have that barrier to entry for -any- communications medium. Picking a
different one wouldn't help.
I don't think the forum is significantly harder to use than any other
medium; it really can't be any moreso than google groups; likewise,
it'd be a little absurd for someone doing a SoC project for us to -
not- have a forum account.
I mean - I've got no vested interest in this whatsoever, but ... I'm
just saying, is all. ;)

well, that's more as a replacement for IRC and open discussion, and
forum are a bit cumbersome for that...
we might as well use the forum, I don't really mind...

Ok, I have joined the group, but out of curiosity, why not use the
wesnoth forums?
