Just to lease a short comment...

Yes, I am in general very much in favor of having as much required for a
specific port inside the main tree of Wesnoth as long as it does not result in
additional clutter which is unmaintained. So as long as things required for a
port are maintained I am perfectly fine with having them in mainline.

But as Boucman already pointed out we are currently in feature freeze so I
think adding your changes to mainline right now might be, uhm, problematic...
I am not 100 sure how to best proceed here, comments and recommendations are
welcome.
