I'm in favour of running such compilation runs. And like boucman I also
would like to see test-runs for Windows and Mac, if possible.

I'm not expert either. Here I run compilation tests in a pbuilder [1] in
combination with ccache. I find issues every now and then, but
especially testing for breakage on Windows/Mac would be nice to find.

(I test with GCC 4.4/4.6/4.7/4.8/snapshot and clang-3.2 using
C++98/11/14, using pedantic compilation settings.)
