Kiggs, There definately is need to get a moderator on this forum to avoid scenarios that make some of us keep quiet and just read (or is it listen?). I second the second option of a moderator/judge so as to allow free flow of ideas, but within limits! I personally see no reason as to why members who have two mouths and one ear should not be shut out of this forum especially if what comes out of them stinks, no matter who. Ruffino's post below There are two ways of technically moderating an email list of this kind There can be a technical moderator -- this involves all posts to the list being allowed on the list ONLY AFTER approval of the moderator. This involves alot of work as you have to read each post and either send it back for rewrite or approve it to go out to everyone. Good side of this is that all posts are moderate and contain no extreme views. Downside of this is that is slows down discussions. No one is banned from the list as no posts are allowed onto the list before they are checked and read by the moderator and thus no offensive ones get through. The second technical way is to appoint a moderator who sits like a judge on the list and reads all posts and comments on those he/she feels to be extreme. No posts are stopped to the net but ALL agree that the moderator's instructions are final. So if the moderator says that your post was offensive and you apologize then you do. If moderator says rewrite your post with more emphasis on gender equality then you do .. Failure to do so can result in the moderator requesting you to be banned from the list either permanently or for a designated period. No postings to the list are censored and all are allowed BUT the moderator is more like a judge of the high court ... listening to arguments and handing out sentences where needed.
