Carol, Members:

Very sincere condolences to you and us all and to the other immediate
relatives of the deceased. We pray for the quick recovery of the injured and
all those who were in the bus or witnessed the accidents.

The good roads where meant to reduce road carnages like these but it seems
that the opposite is happening.

We would like to appeal to KKT and Gaa Gaa owners and the ministry of
transport to ensure bus operators (drivers, conductors and drivers
assistants) are given mandatory training on road safety at least every six
months if we are improve safey on the roads. Would not be a bad idea to
encourage the conductors (who usually lead the prayers before bus
departures) to intervene when they see the drivers are too fast, intoxicated
or too tired to drive and order them to stop the bus.

Early this year a kobokonet member highlighted the reckless
attitudes exhibited by drivers of all types in Koboko. Those who find
themselves behind a steering wheel should realize that they are
in possession of a dangerous weapon. Thiis is no different from carrying a
gun. The gun may be discharged unintentionally by its owner and kill people.
Similarly, a well intentioned driver could lose control of the vehicle due
to various reasons and hence kill people and/or damage property. What about
a reckless driver who thinks he/she owns the roads?

As mentioned already, we would appreciate being informed of the names of the
rest of the victims if and when they become available.

Charles
