I like kiggs suggestion, since many of us will be in Arua for the festive season i guess we could meet on christmas eve and set the way forward both legally and politically. The political angle is important because i dont entirely believe that tulow oil is behind all this, they may just be a conduit. My gut feelings tell me its the same mafias you read about everyday in the newspapers, Wikileaks,........ expanding their asset bases to Arua. Besides that we all atleast know the mess in NFA (an official keeping 900 million in his house not in a bank?) those guys could simply have sold the forest to the highest bidder. Let me give you some hypothetical simple logic, Arua district acquires land at 100m for NFA to move the forest to pave way to develop barifa, NFA agrees. However some unscrupulous Ugandans (with aid of middle men in arua) see the opportunity and swing into action, offer NFA similar piece of land to move the forest and in addition offer NFA officials a few more hundreds of millions for their personal speending needs. Do you still think NFA would still continue with the proposal by Arua district? ? ?

I know like comrade Alaka has explained, that a formal process was being undertaken between Arua Municipal Council and the NFA as regards de-gazzeting parts of the forest for residential purposes. I saw a copy of the letter that was prepared by the Council to NFA and Ministries concerned as regards this matter. I have therefore been expecting a positive news since the Council had already acquired a land in Logiri as replacement. I find it hard to accept this bull shit "Orders from above" business. I seriously think we need to go ahead with the legal option if we are to be given an explanation on what is happening. I fear that we may lose the land and even the golf ground like we lost part of it several years back. Yet this open space is part of the beauty of the town. Our pride should not just be in so-called constructions but also in maintaining a natural green-scenery that's attractive to the eyes and that affects the freshness off the air we breath. I would think we should liase with Municipal Council and the NFA on matters of documents that may be required in as far as this crucial issue is concerned. We cannot allow the Municipal Re-Planning Process that is already in the pipeline to just go to waste like that.
