Dear members, This is to let you know that we had yet another very successful science cafe discussions yesterday in Kampala. Most members who attended were new and they came with new ideas which we believe will take science cafe to another level.
I wish to thank all the members who attended and most particularly, I wish to thank Dr. Anguzu Patrick Yumaa, the District Health Officer Arua district who travelled all the way from Arua yesterday morning purposely for science cafe. The science cafe team are very grateful for this commitment he has made and the interest he has in taking science cafe to Arua. As an important stakeholder of development in Arua, his coming was very important for the topic of discussion yesterday. We trust that the almighty will take him back safely.The science cafe discussion was blessed by the presence of four medical doctors and two senior lawyers among others and they all made very significant contributions towards the discussions which led to concrete next steps and this will be shared at a later time when results begin to show. A commitee of committed people was also formed to specifically take forward the next steps and for the same reason we shall not share there names here. I wish to thank Judy Obitre Gama for specifically bringing with her a number of ladies(one of whom was a medical doctor) and also for the significant contributions she made in the discussions. We value those kind of ideas for the progress of science cafe. However, the members of parliament who confirmed their presence upto yesterday morning were absent but this didnt stop what was planned. Dr. Anguzu led the discussions and had very clear plans of how science cafe can fit in the development agenda and how it can be integrated into the plans of the health department in Arua district.This was the most important expected outcome which will be followed on. This was also an opportunity for science cafe because the discussions were so focused towards the expected outcomes. There is a saying that "there is strength in numbers if only they can act as one" This held true for science cafe yesterday and personally am excited about the trend of events and the new energy we have got from the new people yesterday. We shall continue to welcome all those who are committed to the course and want to join us in the journey. Thanks Christine
