Nyax,

Thanks for the update and it is good to learn that things are about to
start moving in that part of the country. My hope though is that this
power can finally see real investments in the region and also have many
people get connected. The hard question that you and I need to ask
Government and ERA is whether the tarrif will be affordable and or equal
to what others on national grid pay. Currently, domestic tarrif in
Kampala is about 546 shs/kwh and much lower for industrial use. If the
rate in Arua is different given that west nile distribution is under
WENRECO, it will have a big impact on utilization. No investor will want
to pay expensive rates if it doesn't make sense and anything more than
$15cts/kwh will never make any investment meaningful. It is not enough
to have power there, the cost must be meaningful.

Going by the papers, the total investment cost of Nyagak dam is USD
18.5mn and that makes it one of the most expensive dams in the world.
The average cost per MW for this plant is $5.3mn compared to about
$1.5mn global average fro hydros. This plant will definitely be
expensive if certain things in the PPA are not reviewed to benefit the
locals.

Regards

Mundua

Hai Ejiku & Anthony, mechanical problems notwithstanding, I think this
power should be 24 hours coz water continues to flow even in the 9t. A
river does not go sleep as we do. This Nyagak thing is still part of the
solution to the power problem in this part of the country. This is so
bcoz Arua and Nebbi currently on this grid consume about 1.6MW & so when
other towns I talked about are connected to the same grid, believe me
you, this wont be enough for the region. Thats why the gesture of the
National grid connection is still a welcome idea. But so far so good,
though my next concern will b the tarriffs we got to shoulder given the
fact we have paying more than even consumers in the Capital coz we using
fuel to generate power. I will leave that to the political leadership in
this part of the country to deliberate on though it does not stop me
from my opinions on the same.
For us here, this looks like a miracle coz much as we know this was a
government responsibility,we least expected this given the
marginalisation theory we have gone through. The various generator
noices & the fumes they have been are no more this few days. We shall
still expect some intermittent supply at least for the next 3 months as
the situation normalises. I will try to engage the Mayor on street
lighting which disappeared rather a while ago. Communial watching of
premier football matches in few selected joints in town may reduce as
for me I intend to acquire a DSTV which I least dreamt of coz my sigiri
could not handle the power supply function.
Over & out, allow me join the guys in shouting Arsenal.
NICE WEEKEND

Uncle Nyax.

Alfred,

Will the power be 24 hours after the President leaves? Keep us updated
because we are used to 24 hours power when ever our man is there.

Thank you for the update but we expect more later.

H.E yesterday commissioned the Nyagak power plant and also talked about
the bigger plan to have the West Nile connected to the National grid.
This is bcoz when other towns like Kk,Ymbe, Zombo, Karachi will be
connected,3.5ME wont be enough. Radio Pacis will add some solar power to
the Nyagak grid, coz negotiations are in advanced stages from our solar
farm of about 1000 panels. Anyway am still in bed resting but I hear my
kids & those in my neighbourhood laughing in the sitting room,I think
the power is still on. Let me get up & do some ironing, charging. I think
slowly by slowly okuku mu ere. We will try to catch those already ahead
of us.NICE W/end.
