Dear Members! I am glad that such a forum has been created so that we are able to discuss issues of concern.
Some participants have rightly been able to make their voices heard on issues such as education and poverty alleviation. What I want to say today is basically that though we focus on the West Nile region, many of our prevailing problems are also of national character. Therefore we must be interested in Ugandan discussions that also affect us. National debate is conducted in parliament, government and the national press. And some issues that currently affect other regions of Uganda also exist in West Nile. We have to get out of our cocoon and join national debates whenever possible and in a constructive way. We have to join others with whom we share common problems and also learn from them. Even more importantly, we have to discuss our own historical mistakes as well and make way through for a brighter future for our own people as well as for all the brothers and sisters of Uganda. We can discuss our culture and lifestyle to day and its evolution as we look ahead to the future. Read about our delicacies that some of us have forgotten about. The simple life in our villages and what market day is like today. What developments are happening at home. How are the youth coping. What are their productive activities and even the unproductive ones. I was looking forward to pictures of our towns, roads, rivers, bridges, mountains, village huts, modes of transport, pets, wild animals and foodstuffs. I kindly ask any members who are able to discuss or share photos to do so. Whether good or bad, at least let us see ourselves for what we really are as a community. Let us invite more people and share our achievements, thoughts, sadness and laughter together on this well meaning platform. Let us invite our political leaders, artists, radio personalities, journalists, youth, development workers, civil society professionals, university students, enthusiasts from the diaspora, women, local authorities and even other local or international friends. Let us debate and even argue if necessary. It happens. Maybe this has been mentioned here before by the forum moderator or someone esle. If so, Good! But silence actually isn't a healthy option. Whether at a personal level, community level or national level. May God Bless You All.
