The Associated Press is reporting that up to 500 people could have died,
majority soldiers, but no confirmation of figures at this point.

The US already ordered immediate evacuation of its citizens, underlining the
magnitude of the rapidly evolving situation. The number of refuge seekers at UN
bases in Juba has topped 20, 000. Other reports indicated 6 people were
yesterday killed in Bor, indicating the potential of the unrest to spread
beyond the capital and spiral into inter-ethnic cleansing.

Pro-Machar fighters are reported to have overrun 3 military installations in
Jonglei state. The UNSC heard in an emergency session that fighting is taking
"along ethnic lines", but overall information is sketchy.

Diplomatic sources say Salva Kiir lost control over SPLM party months ago, was
likely to be defeated in an internal party election, and that his opponents
were making threatenning inroads into the military; his bedrock for power grip.

No one, at least for now, knows how or when this will end.
