Dear Peter

Thank you for the action to assist our people with disabilities.

I contacted Jackson Atria (formerly of Uganda Society for Disabled Children
[USDC]) for links to people in need of support. His feedback was that it
would be good to assess the people before concluding and giving them
wheelchairs. He explained: "There are many people, especially young
children and youth who are condemned to wheel chairs when they can actually
be assisted to walk. Many people especially politicians are in the habit of
distributing wheelchairs indiscriminately and this can cause more harm than
help. I think if we are going to give out wheelchairs without assessment,
then this should only be done for adults or older persons who have no hope
of ever walking again."

Hopefully the project can take this professional advice into consideration.

Kind regards

Patrick
