Please enlighten me if I am missing some crucial element of this
gentle disagreement, but I would like to suggest a possible win-win
for this dilemma.
Currently the wget tarball is named something like
wget-1.7.1.tar.gz
I would suggest that future tarballs could have the form
wget-1.8t1.0.tar.gz
the point being that the nomenclature could indicate not only the
version of wget base code, but also the version of translations
included.
Here is one possible way to use this idea. I am sure there are
others.
wget-1.8.1t0.tar.gz no translations included
wget-1.8.1t0.3.tar.gz includes translations available at
this time -- known to be incomplete --
wget-1.8.1t1.2.tar.gz includes translations available at
this time -- believed to be complete --
By *complete* I mean that a new translation is available for all
string changes in all languages currently supported. Obviously, there
will be language specific completeness, without the completeness I am
trying to express. This nomenclature makes no attempt to capture that
language specific completeness.
My appologies for wasting your time if this suggestion violates some
gnu convention for file naming.
