Hi, The point I was initially trying to make was that, independent of the interpretation of kilo (1000 or 1024), the correct abbreviation is "k", not "K".
Most people won't mind "K", but some do. Fewer people, I think, will mind "k", so that would be the better choice. On the subject of powers. Ask a thousand programmers how they interpret kilobyte and megabits, and I think that very few will see powers of ten there. The power-of-two interpretation has prevailed for the last forty years at least, and will probably continue to do so for some time.
