Then, use the best tools to build, test, and deploy your applications. Middleware like IBM WebSphere Application Server can help. It provides both the rock-solid foundation and the tools to develop applications for it. See how. In scientific notation, the uppercase letter E can be used to indicate that a number is raised to a positive or negative power of 10. That power is usually indicated by two-digit numbers between -99 and +99. See our complete definition for circular mil with superscripts and hyperlinks at http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid7_gci778491,00.html?track=NL-34 The circular mil is a unit of area used especially when denoting the cross-sectional size of a wire or cable. It is the equivalent area of a circle whose diameter is 0.001 inch, or approximately 2.54E-05 meter. In plane geometry, area always varies in direct proportion to the square of the linear dimension. Thus, if wire A is twice the diameter of wire B, then wire A has four times the cross-sectional area, in circular mils, of B. If wire C is 1/5 of the diameter of wire D, then C has 1/25 the cross-sectional area, in circular mils, of D. In this respect, the circular mil is like any other unit for measurement of area. Because the circular mil is, as its name implies, based on a circular unit of measure rather than a rectangular unit, conversions between circular mils and square units such as the meter squared or centimeter squared can be awkward. To convert circular mils approximately to meters squared, multiply by 5.066E-10. Conversely, multiply by 1.974E+09. To convert circular mils approximately to centimeters squared, multiply by 5.066E-06. Conversely, multiply by 1.974E+05. Also see area, meter squared, centimeter squared, foot squared, International System of Units (SI), and Table of Physical Units. _______________________ RELATED TERMS: cable http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid7_gci211806,00.html?track=NL-34 area http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci554193,00.html?track=NL-34 meter squared http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci528551,00.html?track=NL-34 foot squared http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci778488,00.html?track=NL-34 International System of Units http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci523539,00.html?track=NL-34 Table of Physical Units http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci551931,00.html?track=NL-34 exponent http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci778092,00.html?track=NL-34 ______________________ TODAY'S TECH NEWS: NEW MIMAIL VARIANT SEEKS CREDIT CARD INFORMATION Mimail-I appeared late Thursday and purports to be an account deactivation notice from eBay's payment service, PayPal.
