Ask, answer, ponder or pontificate -- come have your say in the Whatizards' Forum!

This week in the Whatizards' Forum:
by Margaret Rouse, Site Editor

Last summer I was surprised to find that one of the most popular sites of the moment was a Web site called "Dogs in Cars." It was just a Web site filled with photos people had sent in of their dogs -- but it was getting thousands of page views every day. When interviewed, the Webmaster of the site attributed its success to the fact that "people like dogs and people like cars." Duh! :-)

It got me thinking about dogs and computers. Do people take photos of their dogs next to computers? I went to Google images, and sure enough -- there were lots and lots of pictures out there on the Web of dogs pretending to type, dogs underneath workstations sleeping, and dogs looking at monitors with interested expressions.

I thought, "Wouldn't it be fun if we had an alpha dog of the week?" Last month, I asked for pet photos in our Word-of-the-Day mailing. Robbin Hill was the first to reply, sending us a photo of her bulldog, George.

Well, once we met George, we knew we had to find out more about his owner. Robbin graciously agreed to be our first interview and "Alpha Geek of the Week." Read more about Robbin below.

This week in the Whatizard's forum, we're inviting you to nominate your boss, a co-worker, your whole team, yourself, or anyone you've worked with in the past that you think should be recognized as "Geek of the Week." We're hoping this new feature will give us a chance to know our readers better and give you a little peek into into the lives of other IT professionals. If you're not lucky enough to have a handsome pet like George, we'll gladly use a photo of your workstation, home office, cubicle -- anything that lets us get a glimpse of your real life.

Have a good weekend!
Margaret

Meet our Alpha Geek of the week!

This week's Alpha Geek of the Week is Robbin Hill. Robbin works for Manpower Inc., a world leader in the employment services industry. (Manpower services 94% of the Fortune 500.) When we asked readers for pet photos, Robbin was kind enough to send us a photo of her dog, George. As you can see by his photo, George is a very handsome fellow.

Robbin, tell us a little about your job...
I'm responsible for procedures/controls for Manpower's North American End to End Program Management Team. The team is responsible for implementing E2E programs from concept/initiation through project closing.

What do you love most about your job?
Developing repeatable procedures that ensure quality, efficiency and compliance.

What keeps you awake at night?
Folks that don't follow repeatable procedures :)

Do you consider yourself a geek?
Only sometimes - and usually it's about something not related to my education or work functions

What was the first computer you worked with?
It was IBM - in 1982 - don't remember the make/model -- I was still in high school and we still used punch cards.

Do you have a favorite quotation?
"
We have no business buying a tool if we can't follow a process on paper." One of my former bosses (and forever mentor), Connie Hubbard, taught me this.

What super power would you most like to have?
Invisibility -- I'd like to be the proverbial "fly on the wall." I think I would have made a good detective.

How did you meet George?
A former co-worker does bulldog rescue. She introduced me to George.

What quality of George's do you wish you possess?
His ability to sleep through anything

If you weren't working, where would we be likely to find you?
On my patio with George!

When you're working, where would we find George?
Sunning himself in the flower beds!

Do you know someone you'd like to nominate for Alpha Geek of the Week? It could be a co-worker, your boss, a mentor, or even yourself. Send us your nominee's e-mail address and we'll do the rest! mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
