Peter,
case of the 64k link is attached to a device that supports SNMP, you
can monitor the attached interfaz running snmp graph utiliy, then you can
analize the traffic, checking that peaks reach easily 64k
The MIB variable you must check is IfOutOctects (
1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.instance) and/or IfInOctects
(1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.instance)
