I think the way they have been created for me, I get a discovered interface
with an unchecked box if the port is present but 'shutdown'. My *guess* is
that the availability of an interface is based on the MIB-2 ifIndex and the
presence of the check mark is controlled by ifAdminStatus or ifOperStatus.

But there is an issue that it won't show. On a Cisco router an interface
can be up and running, but the "line protocol" can be down. And this added
functionality doesn't show it as being down if ther line protocol is down.

Yes; try autodiscovering the item's capabilities/services.
Rightclick >Properties.... and select the Services icon. For routers, I've
generally had an Interface box checked in that display but it depends on
how you originally built/discovered the device. In any case, click on 'Auto
Discover' to start that function and WUG will survey that box for well
known ports and SNMP MIB-2 interfaces, stuff like that. Pretty slick; big
improvement in granularity; makes the live links function meaningful.
I'm unclear about managing up/down dependencies now that multiple interface
devices have been modeled in this product, but all in good time.

I see this as a new feature in 7.0 - I've read the manual and can't find
reference to how to do this anywhere! I'd like to monitor multiple nics
on servers, firewalls and routers - and be able to do this from one
icon. Any ideas??? Thanks,
Shawn
