Well yeah, it has to be SNMP, right?. I mean, we're viewing an interface as
a 'service' provided by a host (like a router).
I'm thinking, when you autodiscover the telnet service, that's based on a
well known port being open, responding...
When you disco the interfaces, that's based on certain SNMP OIDs being
present, responding...
I'm not sure what doing it manually would mean without reinventing that
wheel. Just my 2 cents! -Don

How about manually adding this stuff? And does it have to go through
SNMP?

Yes; try autodiscovering the item's capabilities/services.
Rightclick >Properties.... and select the Services icon. For routers,
I've generally had an Interface box checked in that display but it
depends on how you originally built/discovered the device. In any case,
click on 'Auto Discover' to start that function and WUG will survey
that box for well known ports and SNMP MIB-2 interfaces, stuff like
that. Pretty slick; big improvement in granularity; makes the live links
function meaningful.
I'm unclear about managing up/down dependencies now that multiple
interface devices have been modeled in this product, but all in good
time. -Don

I see this as a new feature in 7.0 - I've read the manual and can't find
reference to how to do this anywhere! I'd like to monitor multiple nics
on servers, firewalls and routers - and be able to do this from one
icon. Any ideas??? Thanks, Shawn
