If you dont want to dig into how to use MRTG try a demo of Denika from http://www.somix.com/software/downloads/

THis is a limited version of WebNM which uses MRTG for the polling engine to create the performance graphs but with a web interface and auto configuration capabilities. Actually Im not 100% sure if the Denika version has the auto report building capabilities but WebNM does.

Good luck

Robert,

You can find many config templates on out site for free use. www.somix.com/mrtg/ . Here is an example...

# all parameters are monitored by a SmartUPS connected a

# Novell or NT server running the PowerNET SNMP extension

# This report file measures temperature on a SmartUPS

#

# Example CFGNAME: [DEVICE NAME]-apc_smartups_temperature

Target[$CFGNAME]: 1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.2.2.2.0&1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.2.2.2.0:$COMMUNITY@$IPADDRESS

MaxBytes[$CFGNAME]: $MAX

Title[$CFGNAME]: $DEVICE

PageTop[$CFGNAME]:
$DEVICE

Options[$CFGNAME]: gauge, nopercent, unknaszero

YLegend[$CFGNAME]: Temp

ShortLegend[$CFGNAME]: °C

Legend1[$CFGNAME]: Temperature

Legend2[$CFGNAME]: .

Legend3[$CFGNAME]: Max value per interval on graph

Legend4[$CFGNAME]: .

LegendI[$CFGNAME]: UPS Battery Temperature

LegendO[$CFGNAME]: .

Colours[$CFGNAME]: GREEN#00eb0c,BLUE#0000ff,GRAY#AAAAAA,VIOLET#ff00ff

WithPeak[$CFGNAME]: ymw

There is also a dynamic template generator that is free to use if you need help finding specific MIBs.

If you just want to monitor a few different things(<10 reports), you can use our Denika product free of charge in personal edition mode. Registered in business edition mode, you can do up to 500. There is no time limit. It will set up Perl, Apache and MRTG automatically on your machine. It also provides an easy to use web interface to set reports up.

Hope this helps,

I know this isnt the proper place for this, so, I will apologize first.

Can someone send me ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) a sample config file for MRTG that

goes against a specific OID. I need to evaluate MRTG vs what we are using

now. I would like to keep it simple and maybe gather the temperature from a

APC UPS using MRTG. I am still reading thru all the stuff to figure it out

on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
