One issue is the dns caching. We run into a problem that when we make a DNS
change, it can take up to 24 hours for that change to promulgate out onto
the Internet because may systems cache the dns requests. So a user may not
be able to get to you new ip address for that dns entry because it may be
cached already on their firewall.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] OFF TOPIC : Dynamically Change DNS

Hi all. I just thought I would pick some brains out there....if you all
don't mind that is.

I have a situation where, if a server is down, I want to dynamically change
a DNS entry to redirect traffic to a DRP type site. I have seen hardware
based products from F5, Cisco that do Layer7 switching and even one that is
simply a dynamic DNS (3-DNS) and a few commercial software DNS servers that
do this (IntelliDNS)......but these are all very expensive options.....I am
looking for a freeware/shareware/homegrown solution......

Anyone out there have experience in this at all?
