It seems there is a problem in WUG which is causing the delays. This is a
reply from WUG technical support....

"The notification queue cannot be managed currently. The only way
to delete
the queue is the method you're already using - that is, shutting
down WUG or
        rebooting the machine.

Try staggering your alarms if that's possible. That way, the alarms
will
have time to process and reset before another one (hopefully) is
generated
and sent. Also, try setting up some group alerts if that is
possible - that
will help WUG in the processing of a large amount of alerts."

It is not an SMTP server issue since the delay occurs on the WUG server and
is using WUG's internal emailer.....
As for the suggestions we are using group alerts....

Hope this helps others out there.

Scott

What SMTP server are you using? SendMail?? Regardless, set the
outgoing options to "Send Mail Immediately" rather than a default of
'every 5 minutes.'

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Delay in notifications???

Can anyone shed some light on what could cause delays in SMTP email
notifications? I have noticed that at times if I have a large number of
devices alert at the same time that some email que backs up and stacks
the
email notifications. For example I got an email notification dated
12/2/02
at 05:21 for a device that alerted 12/1 07:47 and others trickle in
after
that about every 5-10 minutes. I am thinking that it might be in the WUG
server since if I reboot it the email alerts will stop coming.....

Any ideas?

Scott
