I prefer option 1 as it is cleaner since I don't need to know the username
and password. But what should I put for the "send=" and "expect="
experssion?

Zeng,

You need to create a custom service.

Option 1: Type - TCP Service on port 1433 (MS sql default)

Option 2: Type - NT Service called "MSSQLServer"

You'll probably want to monitor the SQL agent service too, make sure your
WUG machine has domain access to check the NT services also.

I have searched the knowledge base but couldn't find any information
regarding monitoring MS Sql Server. Any one has created a custome service to
monitor the availability for the MS Sql Server?
