Hi
Robert,
what
WhatsUp or any other management tool needs, is an agent providing the needed
data. SNMP is only rudimentary implemented in Windows, thus the SNMP4TPC agent
extensions from a 3rd party.
You
are correct in that diskperf puts quite a bit load onto the server. Microsoft
gets its data internally from WMI, hence disk manager knows about the data. I am
not an expert in Dell, but I am fairly sure Dell uses several own agents. This
is also true for Compaq (Inside agents).
Have a
look at www.somix.com for the Dell mibs. They
include mibs for the server manager and array manager. I am sure Dell Open
Manage 2.0 has the mibs as well.
Once
you have the mibs, getting alerts like you mentioned is pretty
easy.
Hope
this helps.
