Another roll-your-own
approach would be to set up a DLL or VBS script to run as a service, monitoring
WMI for disk space, and then throwing a SNMP trap when the % free space
threshold is reached.
Of course,
implementing such a thing would take some time, and I hear my boss calling me :)

what WhatsUp or any other
management tool needs, is an agent providing the needed data. SNMP is only
rudimentary implemented in Windows, thus the SNMP4TPC agent extensions from a
3rd party.
You are correct in that
diskperf puts quite a bit load onto the server. Microsoft gets its data
internally from WMI, hence disk manager knows about the data. I am not an
expert in Dell, but I am fairly sure Dell uses several own agents. This is also
true for Compaq (Inside agents).
Have a look at www.somix.com for the Dell mibs. They include
mibs for the server manager and array manager. I am sure Dell Open Manage 2.0
has the mibs as well.
Once you have the mibs,
getting alerts like you mentioned is pretty easy.

I have read the knowledge
bases articles…
The diskperf puts an

What is amazing in both
windows disk manager and Dells Array manager they report ingraphical format
that ther is x% free space. The MOM server can also report the % free.
What I am trying to
figure out is to get an alert from WUG when any disk drops down to 20% free
space and then another when it drops to 10%.
Maybe there has to be a
daemon or service that runs on the server to make that calc.

this kb much more usefull....
I have
done this successfully. The only glitch is that you can only monitor the
size of C drive. D,E, etc cant be read because of an apparent issue with the
way Windows reports its perfmon stats..... so im told by ipswitch.

Ok, Before everyone says that we
have been over this a hundred times........
I have looked through the KB and the
forum responses but still I am having trouble trying to monitor disk space.....
I run Dell Poweredge servers with
Windows 2K sp3
What I want is to have WUG page me
if any disk partition (c: d: etc) is less than 10% of space
left....
I think I have all the MIBS but if
anyone has specifics I can check..
Also, I do not want to turn on
DISKPERF as it is a heavy load on the servers
Can someone give me specifics or if
someone has done it already that works well I try not to reinvent the wheel.
