I'm sorry.  I thought I subscribed to the What's Up Gold list.  Is this the remote control list? :-)

Now that's secure!   Fyi...  Take a look at your passwords in the registry or sniff the network and watch them fly by unencrypted.

If you're talking 1 or 2 machines ok, you can change your passwords regularly, secure the reg key and deal with SSL tunnelling but for a good size network?!?!?!  No way... it's not manageable.

Don't get me wrong, I know the product fairly well and I do use it for a few things but not for large scale stuff.

Sorry,

Can't agree that price is the only thing good with VNC...

The built-in java webserver has saved my butt a few times when all I have to use is a web browser on someone else pc... did you know? i.e. http://yourserverwithvnc:5800

And just for kicks, it rocks when a server is set with 640x480, but also set your vnc client to restrict to 8bit color in the options before you connect regardless of your res.

I'll praising VNC for now, until the next time.

Richard

The only thing nice about VNC is its price...

Security is horrible, screen refreshes are horrible...

Try DameWare (www.dameware.com).  You pay per administrator and not per remotely controlled machine.

True, VNC is good. But some issue are that it consumes too much CPU resources and the screen refresh is not always good across a VPN or WAN link.

The only issue that I have experience with running the WhatsUp Gold program
using a Win2K Terminal Service session in Admin mode is that you are
limited to two active sessions. If you disconnect or have idle timers
enabled, you may not be able to get back into your session. In which case
you must close or logoff that session which terminates the WUG application.

Other than this minor issue, I have not experienced any issue while running
the WUG console in a terminal service session.

Hello,
I was wondering if there are any issues with using Windows 2000 terminal
services with WUG 8.0.  I know in the past I was told that WUG was not
tested using TS.  Currently I am running WUG 7.04 with PCanywhere. Please
advise if the status has changed and if there are any problems related to
using TS with WUG8.0.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Web interface and hotlinks for the devices.

I just upgraded to version 8 and installed the test maps with the Worldwide
Widget Co. just for kicks.  When I viewed these maps, in the map view, from
the web interface I noticed that the devices have hotlinks on them to the
page for that devices stats.  When I view my maps from the map view the
devices are not clickable.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what I need to
do to incorporate this option in my maps.

Thanks,
