Yes, you can do this in WUG 8.

Lets say you wanted to do this for interface 6.  In the Events Library,
select the preconfigured trap named "linkDown", select edit.  Change its
name to "linkDown6" and click OK to save a copy.

Now select the new "linkDown6" trap you just created and select Edit.  Click
Add, and in the expression window type this:

                ifIndex=6

Now click OK and save the edited trap.

Now visit the properties of the host you want to show a line color change on
this trap.  Choose the Events category.

Choose Add and select the "linkDown6" entry in the Event box.  Now click the
button that says "Association>>" in this dialog.

In the Associated Monitor or Service picker, pick "Interface(6)".  Click the
radio button marked Down.  Now click OK to get out.

Now when a linkDown6 trap comes in, that Interface service will instantly be
marked down instead of wating for the next poll.
