Part of the issue may be that SNMP and Syslog look at the source IP address and then WUG will associate them with that object.  So if you have SNMP trap alerting turned on for a device that you are getting email from, you will not get an alert.  You need to create an object for the device that is sending the trap not the email, or you need to spoof the source IP of the trap.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Custom SNMP Traps

Ok all,

I have a network partner that does not allow me to do any ICMP or Direct SNMP communication.

They do however send me emails from their monitoring system. What i am doing is parsing those emails and from the outcome of the parser am attempting to send traps to WUG 8.

In WUG i am trying to use the events to look for the traps coming in and do something about it. So far i have had 0 luck getting the event to even trigger based on the traps i am sending it. Any help please?

Justin
