Yea, basically with the default settings, I will know if a server "Really" down after 4 polling cycles. (Within less than 5 minutes).

That's good news. It would take IP Sentry 3-4 minutes to get through each polling cycle.

Thanks,

Mark, I have WUG set to poll every 60 seconds.  Because of it's multi-threading, everything appears to get polled during each session.  I have not had any issues with something missing a poll.  The only issue I have is when our SAP tables are being updated in the branch routers, our Novell Servers may miss an IPX poll, but the IP servers never miss a heartbeat.

Jeff-

How long does WUG take to poll all the servers - assuming that none are in failure and have to wait through a timeout period?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,
I'm not sure of the details, but WUG will process SNMP traps.  So if one can be setup when the HTTPS service terminates, WUG should be able to process it.  Don't know if it helps or not.

FYI, we use WUG to monitor over 400 Servers 75+ at our main site and 325+ at remote branches across 2 states.  We don't seem to have too much trouble with it.  I don't have any experience with any other product though.

My company is evaluating WUG. We currently use IP Sentry in our production environment. Although we are mostly satisfied with IP Sentry, it falls short in its abililty to monitor hundreds of servers because it is not multi-threaded.

IP Sentry has a lot of great monitoring plugins including an SSL/HTTPS monitor. Ipswitch claims that it is not possible to monitor HTTPS resources. Why then can a $99 product do this? Or has someone on this list figured out a way to do this?

Also, does anyone know where a good collection of custom monitors can be found so I don't have to recreate the wheel if we decide to deploy WUG?. A good list of examples would help tremendously for things like SNMP monitoring or MRTG monitoring.

Best,

:) Mark
