Hi Scott,

the item will stay highlighted until acknowledged or the item gets selected. The color will revert back to green if a subsequent poll succeeds.

Yes, that appears to be by design.  I believe that the triangle turns magenta to indicate that new events have occurred since the device was last viewed.  As I see it an event is not an acknowledgeable item because it's really just a message or a reported incident.  However, when a service or polled item goes down WhatsUp will acknowledge when it comes back up. This is because it verifies that the service is back up during a subsequent poll, unlike an event.  Hope that helps.

Andrew,

Thanx for removing the excess I left at the end of my first message. I forgot to delete it.

I had seen that the SNMP Server Event Server was present but I did not go into it and enable it. I have enabled it and now the traps show up. I have also created an e-mail notification so I am getting e-mails when a trap occurs.

Now the next question is: An SNMP trap comes in and the triangle in the top left corner turns magenta, indicating that there was a trap. Now as soon as I click on the icon the triangle either disappears or goes back to being a white triangle. Is this by design? I have not acknowledged any errors or cleared them?

Thank you

A simple question - did you enable the SNMP trap server on the WhatsUp machine? (It ships disabled I believe)

Go to Configure -> Program Options -> Event Servers, then select "SNMP Trap" and click Configure. Make sure "Listen for messages" is checked, and the port is 162.

Thanks,

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] SNMP Traps

Hi all,

I just started to evaluate WUG today. Figured out the linked maps and got that working.

Now my big question is this. I want to receive SNMP traps from various devices (such as Compaq servers). These traps will tell me when a power supply fails of if a drive in an array fails etc (hardware stuff). I set another server to sent traps and I know that it sent them but I cannot get WUG to display anything regarding the SNMP trap. I got my server on the map and it is being polled via ICMP (is green) and I went into properties and under events selected Any SNMP trap (I even went in and found the Compaq Power Supply Failure trap). But when I pull the power on one of the power supplies nothing is shown on the map. My triangle in the top left corner is still there and still white.

I complied the Compaq MIBs into the system so I can see all the traps.

Any ideas on what I am missing?

Also based on what I am seeing I am going to have to go into each server and associate the traps I want to be displayed / trapped for each server. Is that correct?

Thanks all.
